The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department investigating a shooting in New Windsor. It happened late Tuesday night when deputies while on routine patrol heard gunfire and someone yelling. A male was then located with two gunshot wounds. Deputies performed emergency first aid while waiting for Tri County Ambulance. The victim was transported from the scene to an area hospital.
Deputies have detained 32-year-old Trenton Deshane of New Windsor. He was charged Wednesday with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and reckless discharge of a firearm. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 1.
Mercer County State’s Attorney Grace Simpson confirmed to WRMJ Wednesday afternoon that the victim is in stable condition. Bond has been set at $750,000. Deshane is in custody at the Mercer County Jail. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Aledo Police Department, and Illinois State Police provided assistance to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.
