A Wall Street Journal report last year found that girls high school basketball numbers have declined by 19-percent nationwide since 2002. WRMJ discussed this issue with Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Famer Val (Wancket) VanHyfte. She was a standout player at the former Atkinson High School in the 1980’s. Her three daughters (Celina, Jayde & Morgan) excelled at Annawan.
Combined, Val and her three daughters amassed 9,622 points & 4,699 rebounds in their high school playing careers.
