Bond has been set at $250,000 for a Sherrard man accused of running over a Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy last week. 29 year old Jesse Walsh made his initial court appearance this morning with a preliminary hearing set for December 12th. He faces a Class 2 felony of aggravated battery to a police officer and Class 4 felony of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer. The charges are in connection with an incident last Wednesday where Deputy Dennis Sabel was struck by Walsh’s vehicle near Sherrard. Both Mercer County and Rock Island County officers were involved in the pursuit after attempting a traffic stop. Walsh fled on foot after crashing his vehicle. He was taken into custody a day later by Moline police. Walsh is now being held at the Mercer County Jail. Sabel is recovering from non-life threatening injuries at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
