The 2018 high school golf season got underway yesterday with a few schools teeing it up. At Spring Creek Golf Club in Spring Valley, the Geneseo boys fired a 167. Mercer County got second with 192 by virtue of the sixth man score, the Red Devils also had a 192 and Kewanee was last with a 205. At Valley View in Cambridge, Riverdale shot 154 to Ridgewood’s 172. Mid-County beat Stark County 197. In girls golf at Geneseo it was Geneseo 175, Rockridge 216, St. Bede 217.
In junior high cross country the Mercer County boys opened the season with a win over Canton and Knoxville. The Golden Eagles had a 36, Canton 46 and Knoxville 49. In girls competition, Knoxville won with 32, Canton was next with 35 and Mercer County had 64.
