Preemption Man Sentenced To 15-Years In Prison On Armed Violence Charge

Alex T. Cady

A Preemption man pleads guilty to a Class X felony armed violence count.  29 year old Alex Cady was then sentenced to 15-years in prison late this morning in Mercer County Circuit Court.  The charge stems from a June 12th incident in the Viola area. A co-defendant in the case, 28 year old Donovan Smith of Sherrard is charged federally with two counts of unlawful transport of firearms. He was shot by a Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy during the investigation and the shooting has since been ruled justified by the Mercer/Henry County Major Crimes Task Force.  Smith will appear in federal court on November 14th. He remains in U.S. Marshals Service custody.
