Joyce Askew, 64 of Oquawka, Illinois died Saturday, September 10, 2022 at home with her family by her side. Visitation is at Keithsburg First Christian Church from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wednesday, September 14, followed by a funeral service at noon. Cremation will be accorded after the service, with a private interment at Greenmound Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be left for American Cancer Society. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo, is assisting the family.
Joyce was born June 20, 1958 in Aledo, Illinois the daughter of John and Irene Rader Cooper. She was a 1977 graduate of Westmer High School. On November 6, 1982, she married Darrell Askew at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Keithsburg. Joyce was the best CNA in the area, caring for people for 42 years. Most of those years were spent with Mercer County Nursing Home, and more recently at Oakwood Estates in Stronghurst. She had been an EMT for Keithsburg Fire Department for many years. Joyce enjoyed crocheting and crafting. Her greatest joy was time spent with family, especially her grandkids…whom she lovingly called her angels.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband: Darrell Askew; daughter: Terri Askew; her angels: Aubrie, Traycen, Jasmine, and Stephen, Jr.; and siblings: Gail (Lita) Cooper, Debbie McDonald (Steve Bieri), and Garnet (Steven) Curtice.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister: Barbara Ann.
