A Day of Learning For Area Fire Departments; The Subject – Grain Bin Safety

Hands on learning is the best kind of learning, especially for those rural fire departments who respond to on-the-farm emergencies. Saturday’s lesson, grain bin safety with a training session at Sherrard High School. The instructor, Dave Newcomb with the Illinois Fire Service Institute.

 

Sherrard ag teacher John Rasty says the school served as a perfect location for the program.

Following a tragic grain bin accident in the area last fall, Sherrard FFA chose to raise money and donate Res-Q-Tubes to five area fire departments. Previously, the Viola Fire Department was sharing one. Junior Bo Johnson is the Sherrard FFA chapter reporter.

 

The Mercer County and Rock Island County Farm Bureaus partnered with Sherrard FFA and the Illinois Fire Service Institute for the training.
