An Alexis area youth has died after falling through the ice at a pond. The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a missing juvenile on Friday. 16 year old Justin Dell was eventually recovered from a nearby pond and transported to a Galesburg area hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was a sophomore at United High School. The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Alexis Police Department, Alexis Fire Department, Monmouth Fire Department Cold Water Rescue Team and the Canton Dive Team. The matter remains under investigation. Funeral services for Dell are 10 a.m. Friday with visitation Thursday from 5-to-8 p.m.; both at United High School.
