Labor staffing issues impacting back-up 911 ambulance service for the Mercer County Ambulance District, which is provided by Genesis Health Care Systems Ambulance Service. However, primary 911 ambulance service is not affected. The Mercer County Ambulance District includes the Aledo Fire Protection District and Greene Township Fire Protection District, as well as Joy, Seaton, and Keithsburg.
The Ambulance District will continue to work with Genesis Ambulance Service and other local and regional ambulance and EMS providers to provide back-up 911 ambulance service. Based on current 911 call volumes, the Ambulance District should not see a major change in the 911 ambulance service provided. Additionally, the primary 911 ambulance provided by Genesis will no longer do transfers out of Genesis Medical Center Aledo. This will reduce the demand for ambulance service other than 911 response.
The district says what can be expected are delays if the primary 911 ambulance is on an emergency call and the backup ambulance is required. They are continuing to work to resolve these issues. In addition, the Ambulance District strongly encourages the public to get out and volunteer to become a First Responder, EMT, Paramedic, or a firefighter.
