Bond has been set at $500,000 for a Preemption man arrested earlier this week in a drugs and weapons investigation. 29 year old Alex Cady is charged with a Class X felony of armed violence, Class 2 felony of possession of a stolen firearm, and two Class 3 felonies of felon in possession of a weapon. A preliminary hearing is set for June 25th. A second suspect in the case, 28 year old Donovan Smith of Sherrard, was shot by a Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy during the late Tuesday night incident. He has since been released from Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island and is now in custody at the Mercer County Jail. As part of Cady’s bond conditions, he cannot have any contact with the co-defendant and cannot use Facebook—per a Judge Richard Zimmer docket entry. Cady also remains in custody at the Mercer County Jail.
