Members of Illinois’ congressional delegation from both sides of the aisle, including Cheri Bustos and Darin LaHood, say they hear concerns over the due process with a proposed federal red-flag law. Such a measure allows a family member or a member of law enforcement to petition a court to confiscate firearms from someone for specific reasons. Illinois has such a law on the books. After multiple recent mass shootings throughout the country, members of Congress are looking at a federal red-flag law when they return to D.C. Bustos says she’s aware of concerns over due process.
LaHood wants a federal red-flag law too, but says they’ll have to tread carefully.
Before moving to Congress, LaHood served as Illinois State Senator and represented Mercer County.
