Helen M. Herring, 85 of Urbana, formerly of Alpha, IL, was called home to our Lord, Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Arcola Health Care Center in Arcola, IL. Services are 11:30 a.m., Friday, August 19, at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial is in Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Ophiem. Visitation is 10 a.m. Friday until the time of services. Helen was born November 24, 1936 in Janesville, WI, to Raymond and Esther Johnson Clark. She married Walter Edward Herring November 2, 1957 in Texas and together they raised 6 children. Walter passed away May 13, 1997.
Helen was a caring individual who touched the hearts of all who knew her. She was totally dedicated to her children in all aspects of their lives. She loved traveling, embroidery, cross stitch, country music, reading, and taking care of her family. Helen was a devout member of the Alpha Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris “Irene” Wadhams of Urbana, IL, and Garnet (Phil) Babcock of Tuttle, OK; one son, Donald (Lori) Herring of Humbolt, IL; three daughters-in-law, Rose of LaHarpe, IL, Tracy of Cambridge, IL, and Tory of Clinton, IA; 23 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Thompson of Brush, CO, and Joan (Wayne) Larson of Janesville, WI; one brother, Edward (Alice) Clark of Janesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons, Joe Herring, Raymond Herring, and Ed Torrence; and one grandson, Steve Wadhams.
