The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have lifted the pause on the one-dose Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine for COVID-19. The pause was put into place to allow investigation into six cases of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) in women who had recently received a Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Following the safety review, the FDA and CDC have determined that this vaccine is safe and effective in preventing COVID-19 and that the benefits outweigh the very low risk of developing blood clots and low platelets for those 18 years of age and older.
The Mercer County Health Department will resume administering this vaccine at a J&J clinic scheduled for this Wednesday afternoon from 3 pm to 4:30 pm.
The 2-dose Moderna vaccine is also available to those 18 and older at a Moderna clinic scheduled for this Thursday from 9 am – 6 pm.
