Mercer County (4-3) held on late to defeat Farmington (4-3) in boys basketball Thursday, 66-62.
The Farmers led 7-2 early, but the Golden Eagles responded with a 16-5 run to close the first quarter to take an 18-12 lead. Mercer County never trailed again and led by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter.
The Golden Eagles went just 5-18 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, which allowed Farmington to cut the lead to three points with under a minute to go.
Lucas Collison scored 21 points for Mercer County. Colby Cox, 20 points, and Jude Hofmann, 10 points, were also in double figures for the Golden Eagles.
Farmington’s Keauntrey Barnes scored a game-high 22 points.
