Robert A. Thompson – Private Graveside Service

Robert A. Thompson, 89 of New Windsor, IL, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private graveside service will be at the New Windsor (Petrie) Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be left to the Alzheimer’s Association. Bob was born August 6, 1934, in North Henderson, IL, to Robert and Dorothy Peterson Thompson. He attended the local schools and married Kay Frances Leafgreen July 5, 1953, in Rio, IL.

He worked as a farmer, coal miner, and painter until becoming an Over the Road Truck Driver, teaming up with his wife, hauling heavy equipment throughout the United States and Canada. He retired in 2007.

He was a former member of the Rio Presbyterian Church and a current member of the Calvary Lutheran church in New Windsor.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and boating, but especially loved trucking.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; children, Melissa (Jeff) Enloe of New Windsor, Robert Jr. “Tom” (Julie) Thompson of New Windsor, and Tony Thompson of Woodhull, IL; five grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; a sister Darlene (Leo) Swanson of Sunnyhill, FL; two brothers Russell (Joyce) Thompson of Ulah, IL, and Roger Thompson of Austin, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, two grandsons, one sister, and four brothers preceded him in death.
