Rockridge Caps Off Undefeated Season With State Championship

The Rockridge Rockets capped an undefeated season by shutting out Joliet Catholic 4-0 to win the Class 2A State softball championship Wednesday in Peoria. The Rockets won their third state title and finished the season at 29-0. Rockridge plated two runs in the third and added another in the fourth to jump on top. Freshman righthander Kendra Lewis shut down the Angels on six hits for her third straight shutout of the post season. Payton Brown lead the offense with three hits and two RBI. Head coach John Nelson talked about their focus during the undefeated season.

Nelson also had some praise for his freshman sensation, Lewis.

Earlier in the day the Rockets defeated Massac County 1-0 to advance to the title game. Rockridge scored in the bottom of the first and made it hold up. Lewis held the Patriots to just one hit. Joliet Catholic beat Tolono Unity 5-0 in the other semi-final.

In the third place game, Massac County topped Tolono Unity 5-1.
