Discussions are underway between the Mercer County School District and Mercer County Sheriff’s Department for placing a school resource officer in every district building. The information included in the May 23rd Mercer County Board Law Enforcement Committee meeting minutes. Per the minutes, Sheriff Dave Staley would like the agreement to be a multi-year contract with the district paying for each resource officer, which would involve a full county benefit package per the county’s union contract. The contract would also include a one-time initial cost of setup expenses such as training. The Mercer County School Board next meets on June 20th.
