A couple of big ticket Mercer County road projects are part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s six-year, $11-billion infrastructure plan. The plan was unveiled this week and will involve 2,000 miles of road and 525 bridges throughout the state says Governor Bruce Rauner and IDOT secretary Randy Blankenhorn.
A few of the local projects included in the plan–$2-million to resurface Illinois Route 17 from Aledo to Bryant Road west of Joy; $1.6 million for a bridge project at Pope Creek on U.S. 67 three miles south of Viola; another $3.45 million for a bridge project at Henderson Creek on U.S. 67 six miles south of Viola; and $10.4 million for resurfacing and new shoulders from U.S. 67 and Illinois Route 135 to Monmouth.
