Shirley Salmon – Services 3/25/23

Shirley Salmon, 87 of Aledo, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, March 19, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, March 25, at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Make A Wish Foundation or to Relay For Life of Mercer County. Condolences may be left at speerfuneralhome.com.

Shirley Joyce was born on September 11, 1935, in St. Albans, Illinois, to Samuel and Joyce (Bennett) Neill. She married Harold Salmon on February 4, 1956, in Aledo, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 30, 2022.

Shirley was a devoted homemaker who especially enjoyed caring for her family and babysitting. She shared her talents in the kitchen with her Angel Food Cakes, Texas Sheet Cakes, and Tea Rings. Shirley also enjoyed the outdoors, spending time gardening and collecting rocks, watching the sea and collecting seashells. Feeding and watching the birds was also a favorite past-time. She cherished the vacations around the United States with her family. Shirley was an avid reader and enjoyed faith-based novels. She was a previous member of the Open Bible Church and a current member of the Assembly of God Church.

Shirley’s memory will be cherished by her children and spouses: Theresa and Patrick Beaird of Coal Valley, Tony and Kim Salmon of Oklahoma, and Tina and Lance McCaw and Sam and Leslie Salmon of Aledo; grandchildren: Amy and Charles Saunders, Shawn and Dana Kovacic, Dustin and Tara Erickson, Jackie and Jeremy Cheron, Jason and Rachel Beaird, Anthony and Khloe Beaird, Shannon and Jeff Scott, Jonathon and Liz Salmon, Tiana and Daniel Corwin, Lane McCaw, Sam Salmon, Jr., Cindy and Greg Hockenberry, Christopher and Melissa Gammon, Casey Peevy, Cody and Bre Mills, and Jettie Standridge; 36 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Marlys Newman of Canyon Lake, Texas, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter: Trudy Kovacic; and a brother: Creagen Neill.
