Staley: Fleeing Suspect Traveling At Least 50 MPH When Deputy Was Struck

A fleeing suspect was traveling at least 50 miles an hour when he hit a Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy during a DUI saturation patrol.  That according to Mercer County Sheriff Dave Staley. The incident occurred last Wednesday night—the eve before Thanksgiving.

The suspect–29 year old Jesse Walsh of Sherrard was on the run for a day after running over Deputy Dennis Sabel. Walsh was finally taken into custody early Friday morning by Moline police. Sabel remains at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
