Illinois’ minimum wage is going up. Governor JB Pritzker yesterday promised to sign a new $15-an-hour minimum wage law by next week. Democrats in the Illinois House approved the minimum wage hike yesterday. Locally, Republican State Rep. Dan Swanson, who represents Mercer County, voted no on the issue.
Once the governor signs the law, the starting wage in Illinois will jump to 10 dollars-an-hour by July of next year. It will then go up by one dollar a year for the next five years.
