The Sherrard Tigers finished in 7th place and the Rockridge Rockets finished 8th at the Class 1A State Golf Meet in Bloomington on Saturday. Because of inclement weather on Friday, the meet was shortened to 18 holes. Effingham St. Anthony won the state championship shooting a 318. Defending champion Riverdale was second with a 324. Sherrard shot 354 and Rockridge 359.
At the Class 1A girls state meet, Sherrard’s Nikki Schmitz shot an 87 on Friday and did not advance to Saturday’s final round.
In volleyball, the Wethersfield Flying Geese topped the United Red Storm 25-8, 25-22 for the Sherrard Tiger Invitational championship. West Prairie beat Mendon Unity 25-22, 23-25, 30-28 in the third place match. Monmouth-Roseville beat Kewanee 25-22, 26-24 for fifth. Erie-Prophetstown beat Morrison 24-26, 25-11, 27-25 for 7th and Sherrard topped Galva 27-25, 25-18 for 9th.
