Mercer County (0-1) opened the 2023 high school volleyball season with a three set loss to Riverdale (1-0) at home Monday night. The Golden Eagles took the first set, 25-22, before dropping the final two sets of the night, 25-19, 25-21.
Maddie Hofmann had nine kills in the loss for Mercer County. Brylee Marston totaled 21 assists.
Sherrard (1-0) started the year with a straight set victory over Rock Island (0-1), 25-14, 25-20.
