A bill sponsored by a local state lawmaker creating on-the-job apprenticeships for Illinois high school students has been signed into law by Governor Bruce Rauner. The measure was introduced by State Senator Chuck Weaver. He says the registered apprenticeship program designed to train and prepare vocational employees is just what businesses need today.
The high school apprenticeship program was signed into law late last month and while rules about how the program will operate and federal approval are needed, Weaver hopes the program can be launched during the school year. A related law, also recently enacted, allows schools to apply for funding to purchase manufacturing equipment for in-school training.
Weaver was in Aledo last week visiting the Cardinal Chrome plant in the Aledo Industrial Park.
