During this IHSA state wrestling weekend, WRMJ Sports Director Jim Taylor went to the archives and brought back an interview he conducted a few years ago with Jack Nickels from Savanna. Nickels had to win a couple of challenge matches to make the varsity line-up in 1979; lost to several junior-varsity athletes during the season and entered the state tournament series with a losing record at 13-and-15, but finished as state champion at 126 pounds.
