There is a heated race for Illinois Attorney General this election. But it was over 90 years ago when a Mercer County native–Oscar Carlstrom—born and raised in New Boston, was elected Illinois Attorney General. His father was an immigrant from Sweden says Bill Bertrand with the Mercer County Historical Society.
Oscar Carlstrom served as Illinois Attorney General from 1925 to 1933. He campaigned for governor in 1932, 1936 and 1944. Carlstrom also served as Mercer County State’s Attorney and Mercer County Circuit Court Judge. He is buried in the Aledo Cemetery.
