State Rep. Dan Swanson at Apollo Elementary School earlier this year.
An effort to streamline the registration process for substitute teachers is the focus of local State Representative Dan Swanson’s legislation.
Currently, Swanson says some regional offices of education will not allow school districts under their education service region to hire substitute teachers that have a background check completed by another regional office even if they have an approved certificate. Swanson’s legislation would allow the State Board of Education to have an online database of all approve certificates for substitute teachers. House Bill 2982 has been approved in committee and now heads to the full House for consideration.
