Orion’s attempt to reach the state finals for a second straight year came up short as they were blanked 4-0 by Eureka in the Class 2A Sherrard sectional semi-finals Wednesday. The game was scoreless through three but the Hornets plated four runs in the fourth and that was the difference in the ballgame. The Chargers could only muster two hits against Eureka righthander Aaron Schwab. Seth West took the hard luck loss for Orion. Eureak will play Brimfield-Elmwood, at 10-8 winner over Illini West, in the championship game Saturday morning at 11. Orion ends the year at 20-10.
In softball, Brimfield-Elmwood stopped Illini West 3-1 at the Class 2A Farmington sectional. They will meet Rockridge Saturday morning in the championship game at 11. WRMJ and wrmj.com will be broadcasting the game.
