WRMJ spoke with Mercer County High School softball coach Dustin Murray after the Golden Eagles (21-5, 14-2 Lincoln Trail Conference) swept Galva in a doubleheader Friday 17-0, 10-0. With the two victories, Mercer County has tied the school record for single season wins.
The Golden Eagles are alone in first place in the LTC entering the final week of the regular season. Mercer County has never won the conference outright in softball, but has shared the LTC title twice (2015, 2018).
Mercer County is the top-seed in the IHSA Class 2A Brimfield-Elmwood Regional, where the Golden Eagles will try to win the first regional championship in program history. Mercer County opens postseason play Tuesday, May 16th, against the winner of Farmington vs. Monmouth-Roseville.
